The No. 14-ranked University of Michigan field hockey team (11-3, 4-1 Big Ten) will return to the road for a pair of weekend games. U-M will return to Evanston, Illinois, to face No. 16 Northwestern (9-5, 2-2 Big Ten) at 3 p.m. CDT on Friday (Oct. 16), before closing the weekend against Central Michigan (0-12) at noon on Sunday (Oct. 18) in Mount Pleasant, Michigan
• Michigan owns a 4-1 record away from Ann Arbor this season, including last weekend's 1-0 neutral-site contest against Stanford. The Wolverines have earned shutouts in all four road victories and have outscored their road opposition, 9-2, this season.
• The Wolverines rank second in the Big Ten standings with a 4-1 record, trailing only Maryland with a 5-0 mark. Ohio State sits in third place with a 3-1 record, while Northwestern, Indiana and Michigan State all own two conference wins.
• Michigan is 3-3 against ranked opposition this season with wins against Penn State, Iowa and Stanford. The Wolverines' three losses have come against teams currently ranked among the nation's top seven teams -- No. 3 North Carolina, No. 6 Wake Forest and No. 7 Maryland.
• Michigan will see a familiar face when it squares off against Central Michigan on Sunday. Chippewa head coach Molly [Maloney] Pelowski spent five years as a Wolverine goalkeeper (2000-04), contributing to the 2001 NCAA championship, four Big Ten titles and two Big Ten Tournament titles. She is in her first year at Central Michigan.
• Senior Shannon Scavelli was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week after tallying the game-winner in both Michigan wins last weekend. She kicked off scoring early in U-M's 4-0 win against Iowa and scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win against Stanford. Scavelli leads the Wolverines with a career-best eight goals. Her previous best was seven, which she tallied last season.
• Senior Lauren Thomas was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week after contributing to back-to-back road shutouts and netting a pair of goals against Iowa -- her second career multi-goal game. U-M's defense allowed just 15 total shots and eight shots on goals through 140 minutes of play last weekend. It marks her second weekly honor of the season.
• Sophomore goalkeeper Sam Swenson has contributed to six Wolverine shutouts this season, including three complete-game efforts, and four in the last five games. She leads the Big Ten and ranks third nationally with a sterling 0.81 goals-against average and ranks third nationally with a .820 save percentage through 14 games this season.
• As a team, the Wolverines also lead the Big Ten and rank fourth nationally with just 12 goals allowed -- 10 fewer than any other conference school -- and a 0.86 goals-against average. Michigan has allowed 106 total shots through 14 games, averaging just 7.57 shots per game, and 65 total shots on goal. All but four of the 12 goals allowed have come on opponents' penalty corners.
• Graduate student Mackenzie Ellis scored a penalty-stroke goal in the first half against Indiana -- U-M's first stroke of the season after misses against Vermont and Maryland. It is Ellis' second goal of the season -- and her career -- adding to a penalty-corner tip against the Catamounts. Ellis also boasts a career-best three assists.
• Freshman Marleise Emrhein, who scored in the second half against Pacific, is the seventh different Wolverine player to net her first collegiate goal this season, joining freshmen Sydnor, Leah Cardarelli and Emma Way, Trombetta, junior/sophomore Allie Sardo and Ellis. Sydnor, Way and Ellis have also tallied their first collegiate assists this season.
