Four shootings in one month, three this week and all on the Texas Southern University campus.
It is unsettling news for residents living in the neighborhoods nearby, like Yolanda Guess-Jeffries.
"It's disturbing," Guess-Jeffries said. "It's my alma mater, so I'm certainly concerned about the students there and it's just around the corner."
The most recent shooting happened Friday at the University Courtyard apartments. One student died and another was hospitalized.
Police arrested two people in the case, but another remains at large.
"You think about security, upgrading it and notifying your neighbors when you see something out of place," Guess-Jeffries said. "I'd like to see more police presence, whether it's HPD or campus security, just patrolling the area."
Police said the latest shooting may have been the result of an argument.
Several hours earlier, at the same apartment complex, police said there was another shooting, but it is unclear if the two are related.
The four recent shootings have TSU students on edge.
"I just hope that it gets better," Brianna Battle-Tate said. "It's really sad."
